Kemptville Mail Delivery

It took a while but I’ve finally been able to track down how I’m going to get mail in Kemptville.

Why did it take a while? Well, when I tried using the Canada Post website to find my postal code, it couldn’t find my street address. I tried a couple variations with no luck. I instead tried to find the phone number of the Kemptville Post Office because I figured they would know. Back on the website again, I find the Kemptville Post Office and a phone number. Oh, it’s a toll free number – that’s not going to make my life easier I’ll bet. Sure enough, it’s the main Canada Post number. After wading through voice prompts, I end up in a queue to talk to someone. After waiting 15 minutes, the annoying little repeating message just stops. No way I’m hanging up until I get booted back to a dial tone. Finally, after nearly 25 minutes I get a person who does the same lookup on the website I tried. No luck (of course). Her suggestion is to tell me to call the Kemptville Post Office (which I’ve been trying to do) and almost hangs up without giving me the actual phone number.

OK, have the phone number! Spend the next 4 hours trying to get through. It’s busy every time I call until I finally get through. So finally I’m able to discover that I need to get a Post Office Box at the actual post office and not in a super box. That sort of sucks snce the post office is on the other side of town.

Anyhoo P.O. Box it is!

And I also asked why the address doesn’t show up online. The answer was that if you require a P.O. Box it won’t show up. Odd, I know other people with P.O. Boxes that show up fine online. Oh well.

Marriage, Names and Cheques

Cheques are funny.

As some of you know, I’ve recently become a married man (Woo-hoo!) and thus I’ve recently been the recipient of numerous gifts. One thing we discovered yesterday when we went to cash some of the cheques given to us is that the name on the cheque really has to match the account.

Well, that’s sort of a problem when the name on the cheque is a woman’s assumed married name (ie the last name of the groom that people often assume she will take) and she doesn’t have any identification with that name. It’s also a problem when there are two names on the cheque and you don’t have a joint account.

Luckily the manager at TD Canadatrust was kind enough to allow us to cash the cheques we had, even though the names were all screwed up. Probably helped that The Boss is currently carrying around a copy of our marriage license and was able to show we just got married.

So what did we learn from this? Always put one name on the cheque if you aren’t sure they have a joint account. Make sure the name is the pre-marriage name of the bride or the full name of the groom too.

One of our cheques had only our first names on it and no last name. That could have been super difficult if not for the understanding manager. ;)

Apparently a Saint Bernard Labrador Mix is a Big Dog

Did you know that a Saint Bernard – Labrador mix is a big dog?

That seems to be one of the only things people can say when they find out what kind of dog Roxie is. Well, that and also that she is cute. ;) It’s sort of funny now that we hear it so often. We’ve made a bit of a joke out of it now. Someday I’ll have to try to play it up a bit and tell the people they’re crazy. There’s no way our 3.5 month old dog is going to get any bigger! She’s full grown! hehe.

Anyhoo, Roxie is now easily over 35lbs. She’s starting to respond to voice commands (with some help from a pocketful of kibble) and is doing beter when we go for walks. She’s almost to the point where we’ll need the head collar as she’s just recently started pulling. Up until now it’s been a struggle just to get her to walk more than 5 feet at a time.

Lots more fun to come!

Kemptville Ontario

Well, we bought a house in Kemptville. We take posession exactly one month from today! Now I’m in the process of collecting as much information as I can on the town. Important things like where the fire station is (suprisingly this isn’t on the North Grenville website), who provides high speed internet and cable TV!

Eventually I hope to put together a “cheat sheet” for anyone else who might be moving to Kemptville. Some of this stuff might just be useful!

Holy Beefcake Dog!

Well, we wanted a big dog and it looks like we’re going to get one. Roxie weighed 22lbs as of Friday night. That’s almost a pound a day since we brought her home! She also seems to be longer/taller now. When she jumps up against the baby gate, she can now rest her front paws over top of the gate. Crazy!

Anyhoo, we went to SuperPet today since they are moving and have 20% off everything in the store. They also had a huge sale on other stuff as well. We picked up a ton of new toys for Roxie, including a whole slew for $2 each. Great fun! She’s going crazy right now running from toy to toy trying to figure out which is best. ;) Hopefully she’ll be stimulated enough. :)

Update: When weighed Monday night, Roxie was 25lbs! Gack!
